PhilJA, Ateneo, British Embassy launch IEL project
The British Embassy, Manila, in cooperation with the Philippine Judicial Academy (PhilJA), and the Ateneo School of Law and Department of Economics, has launched a project that aims to enhance the continuing judicial education of judges and court lawyers, specifically in the area of International Economic Law (IEL). The project, called "Capacity-Building on Law and Economic Development Issues for the Philippine Judiciary Curriculum and Training Manual," runs from April 2006 to 2007.
The project's team of implementers, including Prof. Sedfrey Candelaria of PhilJA and Ateneo's Atty. Anthony Abad and Atty. Edzyl Josef Magante, are tasked to gather relevant materials to be collated into a Manual of Reference, which will serve as a learning tool on IEL for judiciary members and research attorneys. This manual is only the second half of the project—the first of which are seminar-workshops on IEL that will discuss the legal structure of the WTO and trade regulation, among others. A draft curriculum tested at the IEL class of the Ateneo School of Law will be adopted for a two-day seminar-workshop scheduled on 16-17 November 2006. Roundtable discussions on IEL issues with the Supreme Court and CA justices are likewise planned for December. Read the SC news article here.
