UK backs RP for commercial arbitration
An article in philstar.com on the United Kingdom’s assurance to support efforts to transform the Philippines into a favored site for commercial arbitration, and on the UK-funded roundtable discussion on international commercial arbitration (ICA) conducted by the Supreme Court, the Philippine Judicial Academy (PhilJA), and the Ateneo Center for International Economic Law (CIEL). The RTD, designed to enhance alternative dispute resolution, is part of a discussion series on public and private international law issues. TA’s Anthony Abad and Jill Marie Lopez are faculty members of the CIEL. Read the full article here.

Abad conducts seminar on International Trade Contracts for Aboitiz Group
Anthony A. Abad, Managing Director of T/A Advisory Services conducted an MCLE-accredited seminar on International Standby Practice 98, Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits 600, International Commercial Terms 2000, Organisme de Liaison des Industries Métalliques Européennes 2000 and the International Swaps and Derivatives Association, Inc. The seminar was held in Cebu for the Aboitiz & Company, Inc.

Silayan attends forum on climate change and energy security
Alan S. Silayan, Managing Director of CaFiS Inc., a member of T/A Advisory Services attended the Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF) 2008: Investing in Solutions that Address Climate Change and Energy Security Bank at the ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines on 02-06 June 2008. The 2008 ACEF was jointly organized by Asian Development Bank and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and also co-sponsored by the governments of Australia, Japan, Norway, and Spain, the Asia Pacific Partnership for Clean Development and Climate (APP), the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and GTZ through the Cities Development Initiative for Asia (CDIA). Over 500 experts from over 40 countries participated in the ACEF, representing a diverse group of stakeholders from governments, national and multinational banks, carbon and clean energy investment funds, project developers and service providers, academe, civil society, and development partners and other international organizations.

Harvard Kennedy School Alumni meet in Manila
Alumni of the Harvard Kennedy School's (HKS) alumni met in Makati City on 28 April 2008. Present in the meeting were Ms. Rosario "Chato" S. Calderon, Vice Chair of the HKS Alumni, Mr. Peter Weldon who represented the Harvard Alumni Association, Mr. Karl Miranda from the Office of the Solicitor General and Mr. Anthony Abad.

Silayan presents case study at the ADB CDM Workshop
Alan S. Silayan, Managing Director of CaFiS Inc., a member of T/A Advisory Services presented a case study during the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Project Development Workshop of the Asian Development Bank at the ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines on 16 April 2008. The workshop was attended by experts and decision-makers in the CDM industry from government agencies, private sector, civil society organizations and development partners.
   The purpose of the workshop was to boost climate change business opportunities and integrate CDM initiatives and programs in the current and future ADB country strategy in the Philippines.
   Mr. Silayan, a former ADB CDM Project Specialist, discussed the case of the Baodung Geothermal Space Heating Project in China.

ABS-CBN News interviews Abad on rice crisis
ABS-CBN News Online featured a special report on the rice crisis and how the National Food Authority (NFA) is dealing with the problem, with an exclusive interview with former NFA administrator Anthony Abad. In the interview by Lala Rimando, Abad suggests a "phased transformation" for the NFA, also saying, "We need to be more transparent and accountable in how the government's help is being spent." Abad visits the IIEL, Georgetown University Law Center
Anthony A. Abad, Managing Director of T/A Advisory Services and Director of the Ateneo Center for International Economic Law visited the Institute of International Economic Law on 26 March 2008 where he met Professor John H. Jackson, Director of the IIEL and discussed possible areas of cooperation between IIEL and ACIEL.
   IIEL is an institute based in Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, D.C., which facilitates thoughtful and scholarly research on a broad range of subjects that concern the law of international economic activity. ACIEL is the first and the only policy research center on IEL in the Philippines that promotes the study of IEL through research and publication.
